Base
Apply two coats of high-pigment black gel for a seamless, solid black. Since shell colors contrast most vividly on black, it's important to lay the base as uniformly and deeply as possible.
Art
Break thin natural mother-of-pearl and shell pieces with tweezers and place them irregularly. The point is to fix them with clear gel in between so sharp edges don't protrude.
Finish
Perform a thick overlay with builder gel to completely cover the irregularities of the shells. Sand the surface once to ensure it's not bumpy, then apply the final top gel for a mirror-like finish.
